Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, on Friday. Mr. Finer reaffirmed the strong U.S. commitment to refugees and displaced people around the world, and thanked the High Commissioner for his continued partnership. Mr. Finer and the High Commissioner discussed our shared efforts to address humanitarian and displacement crises, particularly those related to Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Haiti. They also welcomed recent progress towards strengthening refugee self-reliance, such as the Shirika Plan in Kenya. Noting the success of the Los Angeles Declaration Ministerial held in Guatemala, Mr. Finer and the High Commissioner discussed our strengthened collaboration in promoting regional cooperation to protect refugees and integrate migrants in the Western Hemisphere and advancing the Safe Mobility Office Initiative.
