Principal Deputy National Security Advisor (PDNSA) Jon Finer met yesterday with the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General (DG) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. PDNSA Finer reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to a successful conclusion of the International Health Regulations (IHR) and Pandemic Accord negotiations in the coming weeks. DG Tedros highlighted the critical role that the United States plays in global health and global health security, and welcomed the United States’ constructive engagement in the negotiations to date. The two discussed ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza, Haiti, Sudan, and Ukraine and PDNSA Finer encouraged increased WHO engagement with Taiwan. PDNSA Finer also reaffirmed President Biden’s strong support for the House’s National Security Supplemental, which includes significant funding for humanitarian emergencies around the world.
